Equipment

  • 9x13 Baking Dish

Ingredients

  • 1 can crescent rolls
  • 1 package sweet potato patties cut in half
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 stick butter
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  • First of all, preheat your oven to 350°F, then cut each patty in half and open crescent rolls, then separate each roll.
  • Second, place each sweet potato patty on the wide end of each triangle, roll each sweet potato half in the crescent roll, and tuck the ends in. Make sure each roll covers the patty.
  • Third, place each roll in a glass baking dish and combine water, sugar, and butter in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium heat until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves, then remove from the heat and add vanilla extract.
  • After that, pour the liquid mixture over your dumplings in a glass dish and sprinkle some cinnamon, sugar, or even pecans on top.
  • Finally, bake at 350°F for 35–40 minutes. When your sweet potato dumplings are ready to be served, sprinkle some cinnamon, sugar, and brown sugar on top to your liking.

Notes

  • Use half white sugar and half brown sugar for a more caramelized sauce.
  • If you'd like, you may make your own handmade version of the crescent dough. Crescents can also be substituted for biscuits.
  • Serve warm with a dollop of vanilla ice cream or at room temperature with whipped cream or a topping of your choice.
  • It is best to eat these dumplings while they are still hot and fresh from the oven. If you do have leftovers, keep them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat them in a low oven to crisp up again.
